A thorough look on our mission and the services provided by Self Balance

Our Mission

The idea of Self Balance came about as we strongly felt that there was a need to offer integrated approaches in treating problems that are frequently quite complex.

Our Services

Brain Fitness Today® - Training through sensors & software revealing brain waves, energy/clarity/creativity.

Mindful You!® - Attention management learning, Focus exercises Aggression control.

Coaching Biofeedback Program-CBP® - Sensors & software tools revealing body (bio) data & measures.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
— Albert Einstein

In this fast paced environment that we live in and which has become even more challenging on the back of the current economic uncertainties, Self Balance is pleased to present proven and effective techniques focused on a combination of Neuroscience-based solutions.

Our innovation lies in successfully combining Biofeedback and Mindfulness techniques together with the use (for the first time in Greece) of hand-held sophisticated and award-winning technology by HeartMath LLC.

We aim to unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Why This Works

  • Through our methods, you will actually visualize the physiological processes which are taking place inside your body and which are triggered by your nervous system.

  • This way, you will see for yourself -in real time- what it is exactly you need to focus on. Our clients tell us how fascinating this "discovery" of their own emotions and state-of-mind are; i.e. of mindsets they never realized they had and which were holding them back in their everyday life.
  • Self Balance will in turn educate you to notice and learn how to gain control of your physiological and psychological state and emotions.

  • Through a few short sessions, Self Balance will improve your mental strength, which is critical for reaching a balanced life in our personal and professional endeavours.

How we achieve it - Our services in detail.

Stress: Everybody has it but nobody knows what it is.

Self Balance aims to assist you in obtaining a healthy control of your body and mind.  Taking your Stress Profile will be a positive experience which will educate and inform you about your stress.

A Stress Profile is an assessment tool that will monitor and record your physiological responses under a variety of stimuli and emotional triggers that your certified trainer will present you with.

Based on the principles of Biofeedback and Mindfulness a Stress Profile will be used to identify a number of anxiety symptoms (e.g. increased respiration, high blood pressure, muscular tension etc) and will provide you with feedback (in consultation with your therapist) in order to seek appropriate treatment options.

How is the Stress Profile conducted?

Within a stress-free environment and the use of specialized sensors, one’s body reactions will be recorded and information will be gathered by the therapist/coach.

A Stress Profile can be compiled both to young children as well as adults.

What’s Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a method used to visualize the physiological processes (mind-body interactions) which are taking place "inside the body" and which are triggered by the nervous system. With the use of electrical sensors and measuring device, a trained professional can receive information (feedback) about your body (bio) and measure parameters such as the heart rate, blood volume, pulse, respiration, skin conductance and temperature as well as muscle movement.

According to The Mayo Clinic -one of many medical centers and hospitals using biofeedback- in essence, biofeedback gives you the power to use your thoughts to control your body, often to help with a health condition or physical performance. Biofeedback is often used as a relaxation technique, and is used to help manage many physical and mental health issues”, including anxiety, stress, depression, eating disorders, sleeplessness, panic attacks, amongst other conditions.

Through Biofeedback, clients learn how to control their heart rate variability (HRV) and decrease symptoms of stress, thereby optimizing health.

When applied by a qualified clinician, biofeedback can be a very effective method to treat modern diseases which are mainly caused by lifestyle and stress.

Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. We observe the brain in action from moment to moment. We show that information back to the person. And we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns.

This is a gradual learning process. It applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure.

Neurofeedback is also called EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG The signals picked up by the electrodes are sent to a computer, where they are processed. Key brainwave frequencies are turned into a combination of images and sound feedback, which the person watches and hears. This is done in “real-time,” so the person sees exactly what is going on in their brain as they think certain thoughts, feel stressed, or feel relaxed.

The brainwave activity information is presented to the person in the form of a video game. The person is effectively playing the video game with his or her brain.

Mindfulness is a basic human quality, a way of learning to pay attention to whatever is happening in your life that allows you to consciously have a greater connection to your life inwardly and outwardly.  Mindfulness is a practice, a systematic method that helps to cultivate clarity, insight and understanding of ones body and mind.

Mindfulness is something already within you that needs to be reawakened it.

Benefits of a Mindfulness Program

  • Improvement in Stress in school, work, family, relationships, performance, illness, pain and aging
  • Improvement in Psychological distress including anxiety, depression, PTSD, fatigue and sleep disturbances
  • Improvement in Medical Conditions such as chronic pain, headaches, high blood pressure, asthma, hypertension and other health problems

Mindfulness involves consciously bringing awareness to the here and now and doing so with an openness, rather than in a ‘focusing’ way.  Mindfulness training has emerged as a powerful, evidence-based tools for dealing with psychological health problems.  It has been clinically proven to aid in the treatment of a wide range of clinical disorders including chronic pain, anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, obsession compulsive disorder, substance abuse and even borderline personality.

Mindfulness is for everyone who wants to become more and more aware of themselves, anyone who wishes to improve their health and wellbeing.

Developing the capacity to deal with the challenge of living in a stressful and ever-changing world is now more important than ever!

The HeartMath solution is a comprehensive neuroscience-based method that provides information, tools and techniques to access the heart and brain intelligence and make us operate at optimal performance levels.

According to literature published on HeartMath by D. Childre and H. Martin, the HeartMath method is a biofeedback, psycho-educational solution to the everyday stressful environment. This allows us to explore how the Heart, Mind and Body are interconnected and how the Autonomic Nervous System carries information from the brain to the heart and throughout the body.

When we feel stressed or even angry we create a disordered heart rhythm and this creates a chain reaction in our bodies: our blood vessels constrict, our blood pressure rises, our heart rate rises and lots of energy is wasted.

Why is this so important to analyze and keep under control?

Because heart rhythms or heart rate variability (HRV), the beat-to-beat changes in the heart rate, are considered to be an important measurement of how balanced we are both mentally and emotionally.

A negative emotional state, such as anger, frustration or even stress can influence the HRV patterns and make them incoherent and jerky. This is an indication of disharmony among brain, body and the heart. On the other hand, with feelings or appreciation, care and relaxation, the HRV is more coherent and ordered. This pattern indicates good cardiovascular efficiency, health and balance.
