Biofeedback is a method used to visualize the physiological processes (mind-body interactions) which are taking place "inside the body" and which are triggered by the nervous system. With the use of electrical sensors and measuring devices, a trained professional can receive information (feedback) about your body (bio) and measure parameters such as the heart rate, blood volume, pulse, respiration, skin conductance and temperature as well as muscle movement.
According to The Mayo Clinic -one of many medical centers and hospitals using biofeedback- in essence, biofeedback gives you the power to use your thoughts to control your body, often to help with a health condition or physical performance. Biofeedback is often used as a relaxation technique, and is used to help manage many physical and mental health issues”, including anxiety, stress, depression, eating disorders, sleeplessness, panic attacks, amongst other conditions.
Through Biofeedback, clients learn how to control their heart rate variability (HRV) and decrease symptoms of stress, thereby optimizing health.
